• When this camera was new, I would have said, it\'s a pretty good, relatively inexpensive point and shoot camera, that records HD video. Now here in 2016, I would say there are better options available at this price point. That\'s not to say it\'s not still an OK camera, but it does have some issues you should know about.Lets start with the good stuff. The picture quality in daytime photos is actually pretty impressive. It has several different settings to choose from to change the resolution of your photos. The highest resolution photos the camera takes look very crisp and clean, and very large. They need to be sized down typically for use on the computer. The close up/MACRO use of this camera is also quite impressive. I can get very sharp close up photos from several inches away. This is one of the reasons I still use this camera after 3 years. There are plenty of settings for picture taking, such as low light setting, color adjustments, filters, red eye..all the normal stuff you would expect. They all work OK, but practically, this camera is best suited for medium to bright light, and extreme close ups. Low light photos are grainy and unimpressive. Very bright light photos can get pretty washed out, and will likely need contrast editing on your PC. Not a huge deal, but one more step before your photos are ready to share.Lets talk about the video recording features. So first off, all the fancy settings, filters, low light shooting, etc are not available for the video recording mode. So basically you get what you get. Night time videos are basically out of the question for this camera. They will be either pitch black, or very grainy, depending on how much light is available. Daytime videos actually look pretty good, although 720p is the highest shooting resolution, so keep that in mind. Another thing to think about is that this camera will not focus on a light source you choose. It will adjust the aperature based on the light that\'s coming directly at it. For example, if you are recording at sunset/sunrise, and the camera is facing the sun, and you are standing in between the camera and the sun, you will be completely blacked out, while the sun will be correctly exposed. To compensate, you have to move the camera, and the object being recorded so that the camera is inline with the light source, and between you and the light source (sun). Unlike modern cell phone cameras, where you can just touch the screen in different places to tell the camera what light source you want it to adjust to.So comparing it to modern cell phone video shooting. I have recorded videos with iPhone 6s, Samsung Galaxy, newer HTC, and Google Nexus 5x. All of these video recording is better than this Canon Power shot. Plus they all shoot in 1080p now, so even better.One more area to touch on - Sound Quality. The sound quality on this camera is definitely the worst part about it. For sound to come out \"hear-able\" in the video, you need to be about 1-3 feet from the camera. Anything further, will be so quiet, it\'s almost unusable. Anything closer will be very loud, and distorted, and low quality. Also, every bit of wind noise is picked up by the mic. Any sort of wind will completely wash out the audio you are trying to record. Any kind of hand movement close to the mic, will be dramatic in the final video. And the zoom feature of the lens is pretty loud in your video. So when recording its best to move the camera closer or farther away, rather than using the zoom. If not, the \"Zoom noise\" will be in your video.So yeah, what it boils down to is, this camera is really only suited for medium light to bright light, still shooting, and close-ups. The other features it has are adequate if you dont care about quality.
• This camera is definitely a great value. But if you are a photography purist, don\'t even waste your time with this product. First of all, if you\'re such a purist, you shouldn\'t even be looking in this price range. Move up to the Rebel 70D, and don\'t try to impress the masses with your higher than average expectations not being met by a camera that costs less than the lens of a Rebel 70D. That being said, you will get satisfactory pictures, if you are a being a tourist, attending a party, or out with the family. This isn\'t a camera that will photograph a still hummingbird, and it will not give you good, large format, poster-quality pictures either. First of all, it adds lots of fake color pixels, which become visible once you zoom in to your pictures on your computer. The quality of the image is also not the best, as the images can look rather grainy when you expand them to their correct size on your screen. What do you get then? Well, you get beautiful 5x7 album pictures, and you might even get a decent 11x17 small poster. Beyond that, you should not consider this camera as an option. If you\'re going to a hockey game, you might also want to steer clear from this camera. Especially in auto mode, the camera takes up to three full seconds to focus and shoot a picture. Even in TV mode where you are supposedly in control of the shutter speed, it is very slow to react. This is not the best camera for a sporting event, that\'s for sure. Also, make sure you purchase a memory card, as the camera does not have one included. The camera will perform very well in low light conditions, and it has a very decent zoom for a camera this small. Speaking of small, this camera will not fit in your pockets. But it is small enough that it didn\'t bother me to carry it on my hand.Overall I give the camera a 4 star rating, mostly because in its native image mode of 4608x3456 pixels, the images appear slightly blurred. That\'s because the actual resolution of this camera is rather low, 180 dots-per-inch. For the kind of money you\'ll be spending, you will be able to keep beautiful, natural-colored, and vivid album pictures. And that\'s OK with me if you\'re just being a tourist, and you\'d rather not get whacked in the head over a Leica, or regretting for a long time that your children forgot your EOS 5D Mark III in a bathroom stall.
