Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III Digital Camera - Wi-Fi Enabled, Black (2208C001)

  • I bought this model because I had accessories left over from owning a previous version of the same model, the first G1X. It was disappointing to discover that they wouldn\'t work with this newer model, e.g. adapter for closeup and longer lenses. The Bluetooth connectivity is cumbersome to set up, pair with phone and tablet. I had expected to this to be more of one-camera solution for travel than it will be.
  • This photographic tool, is essentially the G5 X, with a 24mp sensor. The lens is Average - Plus. The camera takes nice photos, it has a quick AF, a nice screen that has the unfortunate and awkward flip out to the side design instead of the more user friendly and useful compact tilt. The camera handles well, and stings your wallet to own it.I find the battery life to be just fine.I find the indoor photos to be better then expected but not \"omg great\".The Canon PS-G1XMK3 has a slight shutter lag that i noticed right away. The G1X M3\'s IQ is the same as the EOS-5, which is to say, quite nice, tho honestly, the EOS-M5 is a superior camera, not only in build quality, but in design and style. So, if you can be happy without a lot of Tele at your disposal, then this surprisingly small and user friendly Canon PSG1M3 takes nice photos for you, with very little effort..The camera also has a dedicated macro button on the back dial, which is for me, important, as i shoot a lot of macro shots, however, this is a non-event, as engaging it does not let you get any closer to your small object then if its not engaged.... ummmmm what?Yes, correct......all that happens, once you press the \"flower\" button, is that the lens captures a slightly wider field of view, yet without letting you get any closer....not ANY closer then not using the macro setting.Isn\'t that odd? So, in this case, the Canon EOS - M5 slays this camera\'s macro feature as the M5 will let you get really close and that includes sharp as a tack photos. So, If you buy it, you wont feel that you wasted your money, but you also wont feel that you under paid to own it.@ $950.00 this would be the King of its class, but its not, so, ....... still a nice camera. Finally, in my opinion this camera feels very delicate, including the lens mechanism and the push button on/off, so, it does have seem to have the feeling , overall, that the camera is disposable, similar to the feeling you get with any of the Sony RX-100s, and unlike, say, anything ever made by Fuji.Below, u see 4 photos.....all taken on \"P\" with 1600 Max limit.. \"Fine\" pic setting, +6 sharpening, +1 contrast, AutoWhite balance for all photos.... 1.) Guitar headstock, outside, overcast, some (ipiccy) online photo editing sharping applied post camera Jpeg.....2. Hawk meets Pigeon, slightly overcast day, straight camera Jpeg, ..3.) Angel Statue....Sunroom, many windows, daytime sunny, straight Jpeg.....4.) Tomatoes, bright fluorescent lighting,
  • I became very excited when I read the DP Review of this camera, because it was described as pocketable despite its APSC sensor. For the past few years I have used a Sony RX 100 and an RX1 as my every day cameras, (currently RX 100 V and RX 1Rii).The G1 X Mark III was compared to the RX 100 in the review in DP Review and I had hoped it would be a superior substitute. I carry the RX 100 with me whenever I might need a camera, since it fits effortlessly in the pocket of a jacket or a suit, or inside my trouser pocket. This is not an option with the Canon. At best, as other reviewers have stated, it will fit snugly inside an overcoat pocket. The Canon definitely takes better pictures in lower light than the RX 100 despite its slower lens, but in perfect conditions I could not see much difference in quality between the two.The RX 1 is actually shorter and less wide than the Canon although it is deeper and heavier, but its pictures blow the Canon away, as one would expect with its full frame sensor, and Zeiss F2/35 lens. It is just as easy to carry around one\'s neck as the Canon, and although the Canon offers a slightly wider perspective, the Sony with cropping offers a superior image to the Canon at longer focal lengths. When I am touring and do not want to bring along my interchangeable lens camera, I am going to stick to my Sony RX 1, and when space is at a premium the RX 100 works better for me. I did try carrying the G1 X Mark III around for a week in lieu of the RX 100 but it simply wasn\'t as convenient. It\'s a perfect bridge between the two Sonys, but I have not found it a hardship to travel with both.Having said that, the G1 X Mark III, though pricey, costs considerably less than the two Sonys, so in terms of value for money, it seems an excellent proposition. And if I were larger, and my jackets had bigger pockets, I would definitely switch to the Canon. It takes terrific pictures, and is a pleasure to handle and to use, with an excellent interface.
  • Nifty little camera. Bluetooth is ok for image transfer to phone, but I wish it had what the newer m50 has where images automatically transfer to the phone while shooting with the camera. Would be great if Canon ever updated their older camera\'s firmware with newer technology. However, my main concern was size, and this one is smaller. Still not small enough to fit in my pockets though. Not even my looser fitting jean pockets. You really need something like cargo pockets, or jacket pockets. I still find it much easier to walk around with than the m50.One thing I CANNOT stand to use is manual focus. It is UNBELIEVABLY slow. It doesn\'t even make sense how slow it is! I\'ve never dealt with a manual focus this slow! Actually, that deserves another star knocked off and to be the title. Come to think of it, I\'m not sure if it\'s manual focus that is slow or if it\'s generally the continuous ring that is slow regardless of what it\'s being used for. I set it up for manual focus. The switching between auto and manual focus is also obnoxious. On the m50\'s lens and on my 6d\'s L lens, I can manually focus, but then easily auto focus. On the g1x, if I manually focus then decide I\'d rather auto focus, I have to manually switch back to auto focus. Which is just obnoxious.Again, wish they\'d update their firmware as their technology improves.Aside from my hatred of the manual focus, it\'s a decent \"pocket\" camera.
