- There are good reasons for this to be a separate purchase. This is very close to true RAW recording, and of course it\'ll produce a flat image. You\'re meant to grade that image, and if they included this with the camera, half the reviews would be complaining that the camera isn\'t cranking out usable video. So, it\'s separate; and that\'s a good thing. Add that to the price of the camera and it lands right in it\'s bracket where it should be, so far as price is concerned. As for how it performs? It\'s what you expect. It opens the taps on that camera and gives you everything it\'s got to offer. While I found the camera itself confusing and eventually bought something else, this particular purchase is something I would consider mandatory for anyone interested in cinema or even video.
- The real advantage is not having a burnt in Rec. 709 color profile. I\'ve seen videos of people pixel peeping Log vs Standard/cinelike D and claim V-log doesn\'t provide any advantage. This conclusion is missing the point.Log allows for the highlights and shadows to be adjusted further in post giving the creator more flexibility.Vlog is its own color space and more changes can be made before converting to Rec. 709 (a less flexible color space.)It would be like editing a Jpeg vs a RAW file.In a sense log gives your camera a baby version of \"RAW\" Video.Panasonic claims Vlog adds two more stops of Dynaimc range. I have noticed a slight image quality increase but nothing major.Id recommended using a Log workflow for any Videographer/film maker who wants to work professionally in any way shape or from.If you are a hobbyist and make videos for fun I would say stick to whatever color profile you like and save the money.I wish that Log was included with the camera but the Gh5 is so good for the money I can\'t complain.
- I bought this because people online highly recommend it if you have a gh5, the hlg profile i was very happy with before getting this, it looked nearly just as good and you barely have to do any tampering, but it wasent flat enough for me and i really like to grade footage, the vlog i prefer because it does offer slightly better dynamic range, i find it pretty easy to grade, and its easy to just add a panasonic lut to it in davinci and it already looks great, if your a beginner or are lazy you really dont have to do much once you add a lut...
- I’m going to echo the sentiments of everyone else here and say it’s a bit ridiculous to have to be physically mailed an activation code in 2019. The documentation that came with the code was an eight-language booklet, of which half of the pages dedicated to each language were the terms of the licensing agreement. The remaining four pages were instructive, but unnecessary, since the website that generates the activation file also gives instructions on how to install it.That said, the activation of V-LogL on my GH5 was super easy, and the amount of shadow and highlight detail that my camera retains when shooting in V-Log mode is extraordinary for a camera of this price. The added creative control over color and contrast, if you’re inclined to put the work in, is definitely worth the update.
- Required firmware accessory if you grade your GH-4 / GH-5 footage,Gives you a consistent flat, profile that is a great baseline to grade. You will need to know how to expose your footage properly to takefull advantage. The only issue with this upgrade is that is should just be pre-installedon all GH series camera now, like GH-5s. Also, the idea that I have to physically mail-order a piece of paperwith a code on it is kind of silly in 2018. This could very easily be done on-line immediately.I guess Panasonic is paranoid about bootlegging.Item arrived on-time and as advertised.
- I\'d have to say that I got pretty much what I was expecting from this. I would say that if you are struggling to afford this upgrade that it seems like HLG will get you just as far, seemingly.. if not farther. I would definitely ask someone with more knowledge than I have about it though. In my short tests, I\'m not convinced that you can\'t push HLG farther in post. I don\'t regret buying it though. Works for me.
- Never understood why this is a paid upgrade but it is a useful one. I wouldn’t dare use this without a secondary monitor with built in luts though. I purchased this upgrade solely to give my camera the ability to better perform as my B camera otherwise I wouldn’t recommend spending $100 on a software upgrade when you could get a new camera for $900+ with a TON of features included.
- Too expensive but you really need it for good color grading.
