Nikon COOLPIX P1000 16MP 125x Super-Zoom Digital Camera (26522) – (Renewed)
- When you really want to reach out this is the camera for it. The sensor is small but the pictures are still good. At maximum zoom [3000mm plus 4x digital zoom for approximately 12000mm] you only get 4 megapixels, but that\'s still great for video. It shoot RAW so postedititing can make your pictures even greater.
- I initially thought this was the most amazing camera I\'d ever used - I pointed it at the moon (in moon mode), without a tripod, and look at the amazing photo it took!!! I spent a day taking photos of flowers and things and found a few problems: 1) very heavy (but that\'s OK, it\'s a huge zoom). THe problem is on the tripod - no matter how tightly I tighten it, when I extend the zoom, the camera droops and I end up taking photos of the ground or something much lower than what I was aiming at. Could be resolved I suppose by buying a more expensive and stronger tripod, but don\'t really want to do that 2) when zoomed in it struggled to auto focus. From half zoom, no problem, 3/4 zoom, no problem, but anything more than that, no way, wouldn\'t focus. 3) I set it for the largest size pics possible 16 mexapixels, but no matter what I was shooting, from far away or zoomed in, the biggest I could get was around 3 to 4 M. So when I enlarge the photo, it\'s grainy. NO GOOD. I double and triple checked the settings - definitely set to largest photo size - but still, all my pics are about 3.5M. :-( Maybe it\'s just this one that\'s faulty, but I want to be able to zoom in and enlarge my photos. Disappointing. Otherwise great camera. Fabulous to use!!!
- I don\'t mind the heaviness of the camera, but I\'m disappointed that the auto focus is not as quick as I expected from a $1k camera. I did like the spirts mode while shooting my grandson\'s baseball game. And shooting the moon was fun! Overall, it a good basic camera with a powerful zoom lens.
- This is my second superzoom having bought a P900 last year. This camera is an improvement but 1lb heavier. If you want a very light travelling cam stick with the 900. I primarily use these cameras in the field shooting birds and wildlife and the extra zoom helps on the long shots. I work out of a kayak a lot and its not a stable platform. My heavy Canon 5D and lens are very heavy and hard to move around in a kayak change lenses etc. Both the p900 and p1000 are lighter and easier and i often get better shots than with the 5D. The great advantage of the p1000 over the 9 is you can shoot raw. These photos are from a shoot on the silver river last week and at the Tomoka aquatic park. The last four give you an example of employing the built in filters. All handheld, none manipulated or edited. You wont be disappointed with this camera. Lugging heavy stuff in the outdoors in a pain. I actually bought an open box for $750 and frankly it was new. Ive used it six weeks maybe 4,000 clicks - no issues. Dont be afraid to buy open box or refurb on Amazon. In 15 years i have bought these on many occasions and never had a problem.Nikon should pay me!
- This camera has some significant advances over the P570 and P900 that I have owned. I bought it thinking shooting with the 3000mm zoom and ability to capture in RAW format were going to be the most useful features...not so! The manual focus feature and the ease of adjustment of exposure compensation are really great and easy to use. I am a \"birder\" and have to take quick shots, often needing to adjust exposure and focus through branches and obstacles that get between me and the bird. Autofocus works well, but often gets confused so having a fast, easy way to refine the focus and brightness is great. The 3000mm zoom is clear and depth of focus while short brings the subjects to life with sharp, clear shots. It is about a pound heavier than my P900, but I love not having to carry a ton of gear.
- So I’m an amateur birdwatcher with not the best eye sight. It is sometimes difficult to focus and I’m still learning the camera but when I was able to focus through two sets of tree branches to grab this shot. Not the clearest shot but I was astonished when I saw this Great Horned owl looking back at me. Would not have been able to identify the owl without this camera
- I bought a refurbished camera and I love the Zoom on this camera. The first time I used it, I had to turn it off multiple times because when zoomed out all the way, it wouldn\'t retract. I had to turn it off multiple times each time it would get stuck. Another time I was using it, I would see little green pixels in the view finder. The final straw was it wouldn\'t turn on at all, so I sent it back. I got great photos when I had it, and miss the excitement of the photos I got. Zoomed out all the way would cause blurry photos, or at least not fine detail. I would hope a new camera wouldn\'t have these issues.
- Good cameras are hard to find and this one is outstanding
